PDO AND PGI WINES FROM SILVANER VARIETY FROM THE BLACK SEA REGION

Home / News

Silvaner is a white wine, not very popular, but it grows very well in the Black Sea region. The moderate-continental climate, strongly influenced by the proximity of the Black Sea, with the characteristic breeze circulation, the relatively dry summer and the long and warm autumn, influence the development of specific characteristics of the variety in this region, making it suitable for PDO and PGI registration.

It is a medium ripening variety - the grapes ripen at the end of August and the first half of September. Prefers cooler areas with light calcareous soils on hilly terrains. It has medium growth, high fertility and gives an average yield.

The bunch is small (90–110 g), cylindrical, compact to highly compact. 3ears are small (1.1–1.4 years), spherical, greenish-gray, with small rare brown dots. The skin is thin, strong, slightly separated from the meat. The meat is juicy, with a harmonious taste.

It is used to produce high-quality white table wines that are light, dry, sometimes slightly smoky, with medium acidity levels, with a fine harmonious taste and a well-expressed bouquet reminiscent of the aroma of field flowers. They have no aging potential and are best drunk young. Grapes are used both for fresh consumption and for the production of grape juice. It pairs very well with Riesling.

Delicate light yellow color. Aromatic nose of hay, white peach and pineapple. The attack is frank and clean, nice balance, light citrus fruit note with an elegant finish. Very accessible and candid.

Silvaner offers a light and delicate touch as an accompaniment to any shellfish (oysters, clams, etc.), as well as fish, grilled vegetables, salads, tapas or simply as an aperitif.

The "Sea and Wine" project aims to raise awareness about the benefits of PDO and PGI registration, thereby increasing the competitiveness of wines from the Black Sea region.
