PDO AND PGI WINES FROM RED MISKET VARIETY FROM THE BLACK SEA REGION

Home / News

The red musket is an old local typical of the Black Sea. The moderate-continental climate, strongly influenced by the proximity of the Black Sea, with the characteristic breeze circulation, the relatively dry summer and the long and warm autumn, influence the development of specific characteristics of the variety in this region, making it suitable for PDO and PGI registration.

Late ripening wine variety with very good fertility. Its grapes ripen in the second half of September. It grows well and gives good results on skeletal soils on the hills. Hilly and airy terrains are suitable for the variety. It has medium growth, good fertility and medium yield. It is prone to combing. It is susceptible to rotting. In terms of frost resistance, this variety ranks first among local varieties and surpasses a number of foreign wine varieties. Insufficiently resistant to gray rot.

The cluster is medium-sized, cylindrical-conical, sometimes with one or two wings, semi-compact to compact. The beans are medium-sized, spherical, with a pleasant taste and a faint musket aroma. The rind is medium thick, tough, pink-red, with a faint violet tint, with a wax coating, sprinkled with characteristic dark dots. The meat is juicy, sweet, with a pleasant musket aroma.

Musket red is a variety for obtaining high-quality white musket wines, but the grapes are also used for fresh consumption. Grapes accumulate 18-21% sugars, 5.4-6 g/cubic. dm titratable acidity, for the improvement of which resort to blending with other varieties. Blends very well with the "Dimyat" and "Riesling Italian" varieties.

Red muscat wine has a characteristic clear and pale golden color. The rich floral aroma delights with notes of yellow and white fruits combined with tropical fruits. The balanced and fresh taste is disturbed only by the crunchy acids in it.

Very well, it is best combined with interesting spring salads, fish appetizers, seafood with cream sauce, semi-hard cheeses. It does not go well with heavy food and dishes.

The "Sea and Wine" project aims to raise awareness about the benefits of PDO and PGI registration, thereby increasing the competitiveness of wines from the Black Sea region.
